With over a century of combined experience, Kobelco Stewart Bolling, Inc. is a world-leading designer and manufacturer of capital equipment and process systems used in the manufacture of rubber and plastic products.
Kobe Steel, Ltd. began in 1905 as a manufacturer of castings and forgings and today has become one of the world’s largest and most diversified corporations. KOBELCO, our product trade name, through diversified materials, machinery and engineering divisions, produces wide ranging products and services that include industrial and construction machinery, plant engineering, technical assistance, and new materials as well as finished and semi-finished ferrous and non-ferrous metal products.
The history of the BOLLING name dates back to 1922 when Stewart Bolling and William H. Bolling formed a partnership. Their purpose was to rebuild primary processing machinery for the rubber industry. The company expanded after it became apparent that the machinery of the time had many design and structural shortcomings. The Stewart Bolling Co. was first incorporated in Ohio in 1928. It maintained its manufacturing facility on East 65th Street in Cleveland, Ohio.
In 1967, the Stewart Bolling Co. sold its assets to a newly formed Ohio corporation, Stewart Bolling & Co. Inc.
In January 1969, Stewart Bolling & Co. Inc. merged into Intercole Automation, Inc., and continued to operate as a division of Intercole Automation, Inc. until its name change in 1980 to Intercole, Inc. In October 1981, Intercole Bolling Corp. was formed as an Ohio corporation and became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Intercole, Inc., a Washington corporation and moved to Walworth Avenue in Cleveland. In October 1986, Intercole, Inc. sold its stock in Intercole Bolling Corp. to the TSB Acquisition Corp. and sold its assets, excluding the real estate and certain machine tools to the J.X. Company. The J.X. Company, after purchasing the rights to do so, changed its name to The Stewart Bolling Company and moved to Northfield Road in Walton Hills, Ohio.
In 1989, Kobe Steel Ltd. subsidiary Kobe Steel USA Holdings Inc. purchased The Stewart Bolling Co. and incorporated in Ohio as Kobelco Stewart Bolling, Inc., thus making the new company a wholly-owned subsidiary of Kobe Steel USA Holdings Inc. In 1990, KSBI moved to its current location on Terex Road in Hudson, Ohio.
